Obituary for Frances Marie "Sugar" Finney

Frances Marie Finney was the third of six children born to Benjamin and Elbie Smith on October 17, 1925 in Vian, Oklahoma.
Frances was the Mother of the Church at First Missionary Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma where she was a life-long member. Over the years she served in many ways including Deaconess, Sunday School Secretary, Finance Committee, Program Committee and Kitchen Committee.
She received her early education in Vian, secretarial training in Tulsa, Oklahoma and completed some college courses at Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma.
Frances retired after many years of service as a supervisor in the nutrition program at the Webbers Falls Community Center.
Frances was first married to William Edward Pitts, Jr. and from that marriage four children were born. Frances found her soul mate in her second marriage to MC (Pete) Finney, a union that lasted 53 years. In this marriage five children were born.
Frances was known by her family and friends as Sugar Do, a nickname given to her by her father. She was a proud devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and sister friend to many. She enjoyed gathering with friends and family, dancing, sewing, quilt-making, gardening, canning and watching her grandchildren play basketball and football.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Elbie Smith, her husband MC ‘Pete’ Finney, brother Raymond Smith, and sisters Callie Gladney, Gladys Hood, and Iva Jean Irish; infant son, Victor MC Finney, and daughter Linda Kay Finney Drew; six grandchildren: Yolanda Drew, Eric Drew, Courtney Felder, Edward William Pitts and Kimberly Janea Pitts, Tomeria Lynn Fenner-Harris; a great grandchild Kylia Young, son-in-law Willie Young and special nephew Corinzo B. Smith.
She is survived by seven children; William Edward Pitts, III (Gloria), Willingboro, NJ, Gladys Marie Young, Guthrie, OK Patricia Yvonne Carpenter (Kent), Pennsauken, NJ, Deborah Pitts Felder (Robert), Cary, NC, Frances Anita Finney, Broken Arrow, OK, Brenda Faye Fenner (Mike), Edmond, OK, and Bruce Wayne Finney, (special friend Regina), Walters, OK, one sister, Della James (Linton), 23 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws too numerous to name individually but Sugar Do truly had a special place in her heart for each one.
